Draw near – Lent Course
The Church of England’s Lent Course for 2026. We journey with Jesus on the difficult and thorny road that leads all the way to the Cross on Good Friday and to The Resurrection on Easter Day. Over 5 weeks, the course guides us through reflections, Bible readings, questions for discussion and prayers.
At 5.15pm you may want to join us as we eat our own sandwiches etc and have a cuppa and conversation, this is optional. The course itself starts at 6.00pm and will finish no later than 7:30pm on Wednesdays – 25th Feb, 4th, 11th and 18th March and Monday March 23.

Lent Course and Optional Lenten Meal
This Monday 17th March at 6.00pm at St James, Chapelthorpe.
This year’s Lent Course is based on the book and film titled ‘The Shack.’
It describes the experience of a man whose faith is floundering and who is consumed with hatred and guilt against the person who murdered his young daughter.
Anger at God who allowed it to happen and anger at himself for not realising earlier that his daughter was missing. He feels compelled to visit the shack where his daughter was murdered and there, he meets Papa, Jesus, and Sarayu, who represent the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. He then starts his own Lenten journey of questioning, struggling and ultimately moving from darkness to light. The course will be challenging but also rewarding as we journey with him.
