Welcome to the website of St Peter’s Church, Woolley
We are part of the Diocese of Wakefield in West Yorkshire, and the Church of England.
St Peter’s is a medieval church with some good late medieval stained glass. We are the only church serving the village of Woolley, just off the M1 motorway at junction 38 and 7 miles south of Wakefield. Click here to view map.
If you are thinking about having your wedding at St Peter's, we offer Marriage Preparation to help you make it the best of beginnings.
Our sister church is in the neighbouring village of West Bretton, home of the world-renowned Yorkshire Sculpture Park. The Church in West Bretton is an Anglican-Methodist Local Ecumenical Partnership. Sunday services there are at 10.30am each week. Anglican Holy Communion is on the 4th Sunday, and usually we have Holy Communion there on Tuesdays at 10.30am.

Christian Aid
This year’s Christian Aid house-to-house collection has raised £815.77.
Thank you for your generosity, especially if you were able to gift-aid
your donation, and a big thank you to the collectors who give their time
each year, and to Alan Gale who counts the contents of the envelopes and
banks it.
T Club
We have a T break in the summer months of July and August, and as the
September meeting would be the day before the Flower Festival, our next
T Club is likely to be Thursday 21st October, venue to be announced
Fundraising Meal
Thank you so much to everyone who has invited people into their home for
a fundraising meal.
So far we have collected £600 a great first attempt. If any of you
haven’t given your money to Alan Gale or myself please can you do
it in the next few weeks. Or if you still have to invite somebody round
please do ASAP.
I would like to be able to give you a final total in the September Church
and Community News.
Once again thank you so much to all the people who took part.

Please think about the farmers
Seeing cattle and sheep grazing in our local fields is a joy, and restful
too. Footpaths through fields for dog-walking is a benefit of living in
the countryside. But please keep dogs on leads – cattle and sheep
are easily distressed by dogs running free. And please don’t allow
dogs to foul the paths or the grazing.
The barley harvest starts soon, and then there’ll be the harvesting
of other crops until the autumn wheat harvest. Harvesting often goes on
into late evenings and weekends, and combine harvesters and tractors with
trailers need wide access to turn into fields and farmyards, so please
think before you park around the village. Parking too near a gateway to
a field or farm means farm vehicles can’t get in and out. And on
our narrow lanes, please park as close to the edge as possible –
even if it means your passengers getting out of the car before you park.
Woolley Horse Show, Saturday 31st July
The annual Woolley Horse Show, at Beacon Hill Farm on Intake Lane in Woolley,
has something for all the family, also Catering and Refreshment Tents,
besides many Craft Stalls and Trade Stands.
Fancy Dress For Children on Foot
For the first time at this year’s show we will be having a fancy
dress for children on foot.
The class will start around midday and is £1 to enter with a rosette
for all competitors.
Volunteers Required
Over the last 3 years the show has raised over £10k for local charities
with the help of volunteers. We are desperately short of volunteers to
help in the refreshment marquee. If you are willing to help even for an
hour it would be greatly appreciated. Please call Cheryl Noble
Church Flower Festival
The bi-ennial Flower Festival at St Peter’s is over the weekend
of September 18th and 19th. As well as the flower displays in church,
we are also hoping we might have another Scarecrow Festival in the village,
so that visitors can wander round the village and view scarecrows in people’s
front gardens. The scarecrows could be anything at all – so, no
set theme. If you’d like to make a scarecrow and display it that
weekend, please would you volunteer this information to Stephen at the
Vicarage, and say what your scarecrow will be – so that we don’t
have any duplicates.
Church "Big Clean"
In preparation for the Flower Festival we need to give our church a Big
Clean. We're proposing to have a big effort on Sunday afternoon September
5th.
If you can spare us a bit of time, please come to church for the 10.30am
service, bring your mop, bucket, dusters etc, stay for a picnic lunch,
and then set to work on the cleaning after lunch.
Harvest Festival – diary date
Advanced notice that at St Peter’s we’ll be celebrating our
Harvest Festival on Sunday 3rd October.
