Welcome to the website of St Peter’s Church, Woolley
We are part of the Diocese of Wakefield in West Yorkshire, and the Church of England.
St Peter’s is a medieval church with some good late medieval stained glass. We are the only church serving the village of Woolley, just off the M1 motorway at junction 38 and 7 miles south of Wakefield. Click here to view map.
Our sister church is in the neighbouring village of West Bretton, home of the world-renowned Yorkshire Sculpture Park. The Church in West Bretton is an Anglican-Methodist Local Ecumenical Partnership. Sunday services there are at 10.30am each week. Anglican Holy Communion is on the 4th Sunday, and usually we have Holy Communion there on Tuesdays at 10.30am.

News
Flower Festival
St Peter’s Flower Festival welcomed a good number of visitors to
see the beautiful flower arrangements, and the scarecrows. Judging from
the very complimentary comments, the whole event was greatly appreciated,
and visitors were interested to learn about the Women of Faith portrayed
in the arrangements. Very many thanks to all who contributed in any way
to the success of the weekend.
Gifts at the Flower Festival totalled £924, and the refreshments
raised an additional £600.
On the Sunday evening St Peter’s was full for an Evening Praise
service, supported by members of other churches in Wakefield Deanery.
Woolley Show
The Church Cake Stall was a sell-out as usual and raised £575, which
was £100 more than last year. Many thanks to you if you bought a
cake, or helped on the stall, and a VERY BIG THANKYOU TO THOSE WHO BAKED
- for two events, the Flower Festival and the Cake Stall at the Horse
Show.
T Club
T stands for tea, and third Thursday. We meet from 2pm to 4pm, sometimes
in the Vicarage, other times in members’ homes. We chat. We have
tea and biscuits. We sometimes have a speaker. Our first meeting after
the summer break is on Thursday September 18th when we shall meet at Phyll
Brake’s, Woolley Bank Farm, Bramley Lane. Transport to and from
can be provided (please ring Stephen). Everyone is welcome.
Toddler Praise
On Friday 12th September we shall be restarting Toddler Praise at 10am,
in the Wentworth Chapel in St Peter’s Church. All babies and toddlers
are invited to bring their parents, grandparents, or carers for half an
hour of songs, activity, and prayer – plus juice/coffee and biscuits.
Harvest Supper, Saturday September 20th 7.30pm
Besides our usual pie and peas supper at our Harvest Supper, we’re
having a an illustrated talk on their visit to Mara by Stephen and Jan
Kelly. Tickets are £6 each or £15 for a family ticket. Drinks
at the bar.
Family Fun Day, Sunday September 21st, from 2pm
Woolley Residents Association invite you to a Family Fun Day on Sunday
September 21st at 2pm, at Woolley Rec by the Village Hall. The idea is
we bring our own picnic, so there’s no admission charge, but there
is a bouncy castle, face-painting, golf chipping competition, hair-braiding
and fun tattoos, Punch & Judy show, a magic show, plus a tombola boasting
fantastic prizes. There’s also a children’s painting competition
on the theme of ‘My holiday’ – details from Kath Padgett,
Alison Wainwright or Gill Bailey. Of course, you don’t have to have
a tattoo or your face painted. You can just come and enjoy the atmosphere
with your neighbours.
Prayer Group
Several people responded to our recent Body Building exercise by signifying
that they’d like to join a prayer group. We’ll meet initially
on Sunday September 7th at 6pm in church.
